We're currently seeking an experienced AC Protection Engineer (Commissioning) for a 1 year contract based near Edmonton, AB.
Scope of Work:
Reports to: Commissioning Manager Directs functional: Commissioning Engineer Primary testing of high voltage equipment (Current Transformers, Disconnectors, High Voltage Transformers) Secondary testing of cables (loop and signals checks)
Main Duties:
Commissioning of Schweitzer Electric SEL and Siemens Siprotec protection relays Control checks to ensure that all personnel, contractors and subcontractors involved in commissioning are aware of the possible hazards and that the defined protective measures are implemented. Updating of documentation, Recording of work performed Control checks to ensure that all necessary protective equipment and provisions have been carefully and are fully functional prior to performing tests and commissioning activities, particularly when plant components are electrically live during such testing or commissioning activities, in order to prevent harm to personnel and equipment Coordinate special instruments, equipment jointly with the E-installation contractors Training of personnel needed for his/her tasks scope, and control checks to ensure correct usage of these tools Review method statements Supporting Commissioning/Project management in risk, claims and change management
Qualifications:
Familiar with IEC 61850 protocol and commissioning Commissioning of high voltage AC yard equipment and Control and Protection functions
Experience: Over 3 years experience substations
Skills and knowledge: Knowledge in HVDC projects preferable
