Supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged toward the goals of [C] GIW Minerals [/C] which include continuous process improvement to meet and exceed safety performance, quality requirements, productivity targets, cost reduction through organized teams, the ability to statistically measure performance targets; keep abreast of technology advancements; direct the personnel in making cores and molds; in charging, operating, and tapping furnaces; in pouring molten metal in molds; and in chipping, grinding, and sandblasting castings by performing the following duties with an end result of increasing margins, reducing scrap and rework while striving for zero accidents through an organized health, safety and environmental program.
Interprets to employees and ensures compliance to company rules & policies, environmental, health & safety regulations and promotes good housekeeping practices. Responsible to reduce accidents and improve safety awareness on the shop floor. Leads by example.
Responsible for day-to-day environmental compliance within the foundry and surrounding area.
Examines materials and products at various stages of processing for conformance to work instructions and specifications.
Coordinate PM program in area of the foundry with concurrence with the foundry manager and maintenance supervisor.
Reviews production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment to schedule. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production goals, schedules and product routings.
Monitor and reduce energy usage. Shut off equipment and lights not in use and on back shifts and weekends. Reports air leaks.
Monitor and/or recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Maintains production records.
Suggest changes in working methods and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work center team.
Develop a team-based culture and assist other departments when needed. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems.
Actively participate in cross-functional teams to lower cost and reduce Non-Conformances and scrap.
Initiate or suggest plans to train and motivate employees to achieve work goals.
Monitor monthly budget and track changes to keep negative variances to minimum.
Monitor and improve foundry on time performance.
Review castings and improve the best practice including pattern modification justification.
Play a role in implementation of capital project without loss of production efficiency and on time performance.
Update work instructions to insure perpetual maintenance and upgrades to reflect current information.
Communicate company objectives through regular meetings with employees. Lead or assist in regularly scheduled toolbox meetings
Plan the production schedule and labor requirement in advance so that all materials are staged and equipment working and there is no lost time.
Ensure Department Team Leaders are aware of each Department/Plant goals on safety, production, attendance, scrap and all aspects of their job and hold them accountable.
Ensure all reports are timely and accurate.
Assist Manager in planning for budgets, capital and headcount.
Maintain safety to the highest level with team.
Ensure quality is part of every department focus.
Monitor housekeeping within the plant.
Have the ability to read blue prints.
Education / Experience:
Bachelor degree (B.S.) or equivalent preferred; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
