Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications:
BSc/BEng (Civil Engineering) or BSc(Hons) Hydrology.
Post graduate qualifications (MSc) will be an advantage.
Matric results: Minimum B (on HG) for Maths and Science.
Eligibility to register as a PrEng or PrSciNat
Experience:
2 to 5 years hydrological / water engineering experience in a consulting environment, including mine water balance modelling.
Skills:
Strong understanding of mathematics and science, critical thinking, analytical thinking, active listening, active learning, reading comprehension, complex problem solving, monitoring, negotiation, judgement and decision making.
Strong communication skills
Good report writing skills.
Must have experience in hydrological modelling, HEC-RAS / RiverCAD, PC-SWMM, AutoCAD.
Must be proficient in MS Excel
GoldSim modelling experience will be an advantage.

Main activities:
The successful candidate will be employed in our Engineering Hydrology division, in Rivonia.
The candidate will be required to undertake hydrological and surface water studies for the mining and industrial sectors. The work will involve water balance modelling, storm water management planning, integrated water and waste management planning, including civil design (if the successful candidate is an engineer).
Activities will include defining problems, developing solutions, performing calculations and using design software as appropriate, impact assessment, report writing, etc.
The successful candidate will be required to communicate with clients, supervisors, peers and subordinates.
Specific technical competencies:
Acquisition, processing and interpretation of hydrological data
Surface runoff modelling for site specific catchment areas
Flood peak runoff calculations
Water balance modelling
Reservoir and canal routing, flood attenuation
Surface backwater profiling (including floodline determination)
Canal sizing and design
Spillway sizing and design
Energy dissipation and erosion control structure sizing and design
Software:
General: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
AutoCAD
HEC-RAS / RiverCAD, WRSM2005, SCS, PC-SWMM, GoldSim, Utility Progams for Drainage
