Technical:
Develop and implement the environmental strategy appropriate to the Operation
Review and provide specialist advice and services in the application of the Mine’s Environmental Management System(EMS)
Analyse business processes, impact of legislation, business requirements and stakeholder views to evaluate risks and plan for the management of risk areas
Evaluate the effectiveness, suitability and adequacy of environmental management
Analyse and interpret information in order to guide the Mine’s environmental strategy and reporting as per stakeholder requirements
Develop, implement and review environmental related policies, procedures and plans for the Company in line with its strategic objectives
Remain informed of global trends and environmental standards of good practice and interpreting their relevance for the Operation
Draft, review and approve scopes, budgets, projects and schedules for departmental and consultant assignments, including managing of Environmental Impact Assessments
Provide assurance to internal and external stakeholders regarding the Mine’s Environmental Management performance
Managerial:
Supervise and develop and manage the key performance areas of environmental staff
Ensure that all licences and permits are in place
Financial:
Recommend and incorporate cost saving initiatives into budgets and controls expenditure within approved parameters
Prepare annual environmental budgets for approval and controls expenditure
Ensure that environmental / social accounting practices are utilized in order to drive eco-efficiency and to inform the reduction of future liabilities
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build relationships across the Petra pipeline by sharing business information, knowledge and EMS requirements
Monitor adherence by internal stakeholders and consultants to agree scopes of work according to services level agreements
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders with regards to all matters of environmental management, including EMS requirements, concerns, permissions, exemptions and legal liability
Candidate Requirements:
Grade 12
A 3-year tertiary qualification (minimum NQF level 6) in the field of Environmental Management or relevant Natural Science
At least eight (
years post-graduate experience in the field of environmental management
At least five (5) years operational experience in the mining industry running an Environmental Management System (EMS)
Code 08 driver’s Licence
Other Skills/Competencies:
Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to effectively analyse and interpret information, and plan, coordinate and prioritise tasks based on strategic and entrepreneurial thinking
Sound knowledge of environmental legal requirements
Sound technical knowledge of risk assessment and evaluation, environmental management tools, programmes and systems
Represent the organization and maintain liaison with individuals and related organizations
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
High ethical standards
Project Management Skills
Relevant computer skills
