Reporting to the General Manager Technology, the Business Development Manager – Technology & Solutions leads a small team that is responsible for bringing technology products and technology-enabled solutions to the mining market in Western Australia. He or she will work in close collaboration with the mining account team to liaise with customers and provide flexible solutions that address customer needs.

The solutions that are covered by this role leverage of safety technologies such as fatigue monitoring and proximity awareness systems, production systems such as MineStar Fleet and machine guidance systems such as MineStar Terrain, as well as autonomous mining solutions.

This role defines the strategy on what solutions we bring to market, the development of these solutions, how we market these solutions, and how we work with customers to develop results-oriented, flexible technical and commercial proposals.

Also, an important aspect of this role is to continuously monitor our customer's needs and to provide regular feedback to the overall WesTrac organisation of the direction our customers are taking in the technology space, and to provide direction & suggestions on how we align ourselves to those changes.

Besides the overall strategy on how we bring technology products to market, additional responsibilities include working with Universities, SMEs and third parties to define future areas of opportunity, actively participate in conferences and other networking events, liaising closely with the product development teams of our suppliers, and maintain good understanding of the value delivered by our products and solutions through on-site productivity and solutions-usage studies.

Finally, it is also expected of this role to provide thought leadership on the future direction of mining & mining technology for the broader WesTrac organisation.


Duties will include but not be limited to;

Provide direction to the mining account team on the development of technology account strategies
Adequately manage, delegate and track actions from the technology account strategies
Ensure regular reviews are undertaken
Provide SME insights and direction
Define accountabilities and responsibilities in regards to communications with customers between mining account team, technology team and Caterpillar Global Mining
Lead baseline studies and current state assessments pre-sale
Lead impact studies identifying and quantifying the impact & value of technology solution
Prepare commercial, solutions-focused commercial proposals
Work with the mining account team to complete the sales effort
Continuously monitor technology performance against baseline and expected value

Essential Criteria:

Tertiary qualification within Mining Engineering field or related coupled with minimum of 12 years' post qualification experience working in an open pit mining environment
Proven comprehensive understanding of mining operations processes (e.g. mine production planning, drill & blast, geology, mine design)
Proven comprehensive understanding of mining technologies such as Fleet Management Systems, Guidance Systems etc.
High level of attention to detail and the ability to apply critical thinking, analysis and identify continuous improvement opportunities
Demonstrated planning and organisational skills including current state assessments, troubleshooting, process mapping and business analysis
The ability to coordinate multiple projects with competing deadlines
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal) with the ability to effectively liaise at a high level with customers and a diverse range of interdepartmental team members
Good computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office, Mine Design and Production software, )
Demonstrated understanding of safe work practices within a mining environment
Strong commercial acumen
Excellent analytical skills

Desirable Criteria:

Six sigma qualifications
Post-graduate qualifications in finance, management or commerce.
